It's all in who you know....

Thursday April 24, 2014

Recently, strange things have been popping up outside... (ok, maybe with a little  help...)

What IS that stuff?
I'm so used to seeing nothing but white...

I think the trees are starting to bud too...

one day there's the first sign...

and then poof!

Full blown spring
...with a little help

Oh, what's that?
You thought eggs came from....

let's get a closer look...

... did he?

then please explain how he got up there ...

maybe... there's another culprit...

eye spy....

a Lego rabbit ....

but this is not just ANY Lego rabbit!
Seriously...  in the hands of this Legomom??
(you should see who's driving my Legovan then)

You really think that's just a carrot he's holding??

ta daaaaa....

Protector of Legomom's chocolate - at any cost!

Not so cute looking any more now is he?

Speaking of cute, guess who arrived next door?

(I highly approve of the name)

Defendo-bun need not beware of this cutie.
He is Cocoa after all.

Speaking of chocolate....
Defendo-bun was busy on the homefront,
so I needed company for an outing...

it's all who you know...

or at least know what's in front of you

Word of the day...

Sunday April 13, 2014

Legoson was carrying a walkie talkie today. A handy way for him to communicate and it's fun too.

So here is part of one of the conversations we had:

Legson: "Mom, I'm playing with Johnny"

Lego Headquarters: "OK"

Legoson: "No, no mom... you have to say "over and out. "

Lego Headquarters: "OK"

Legoson: "Mom, don't make me go ballistic."

Ballistic? ....Where the heck did that come from?

Later on at dinner.

Legoson making big fuss over some green leafy vegetative matter. And no, the wonderful ideas from  my last  blog did NOT help. And yes, is was indeed Legoson's idea that he would eat Kale. Apparently while shopping with dad, Legoson stated he would eat Kale. Yeah right. Alternatively tonight, he decided to eat a bowl of lettuce.

Not wanting to listen to much moaning and groaning any more... I decide I am not going to sit with him, but he can sit there all night until said green matter was consumed ..... and I didn't want to talk to him until then.
Apparently once again I am making him go ballistic. All because I feed him healthy stuff.

Speaking of ballistic.... I forgot to share the ballistic-ly mega cake we had for my mom's birthday:

ballistic-ly speaking,
might be a tad too heavy to throw that at anyone though

oh yeah.... it was gooooooooood.

speaking of the dynamics of projectiles,

no more ballistic snowballs.

Goodbye winter!!!!

Time to celebrate spring!

Had to go visit my favourite chocolate hangout...
and maybe initiate a few newbies :)

A great ballistic sacrifice... but someone has to do it

I could easily go ballistic over this cheesecake....
any time.

oh yeah... it was THAT gooooood

ballistic-ly gooood.

Makes everything at the ballistic headquarters seem just fine....

Next April Fools for sure....

Monday April 7, 2014

Perusing the internet, I came across an article  by Devon Scoble called
" 9 lunch hacks for parents who've run out of creative ideas  "

Having completely run out of ideas for a certain Legoson , I thought, great!

Now I don't know exactly what planet the author of this article lives on. But here on earth, most kids have a certain ... umm...dislike... aversion to most any kind of vegetable....nay I say disgust to the point of wanting to ban certain foods ... and if the mere appearance of even a minute speck of orange remotely resembling a carrot were to appear in a dish, it would cause them to flee in repulsion.

Oh I do dream... that one day my Legoson will awaken and ravenously eat every vegetable in sight... it's just not happening yet.

But I digress... perhaps this article was supposed to be printed on April 1. It certainly caused an endlessness stream of laughter.  I prefer to change the title to

" Lunch hacks to ensure your kid will never be able to trade their lunch,

aka April Fools lunches made easy"

mmm.. now doesn't this look delish?
What is it you ask?.. oh this gets better
"Mush a piece of bread in that half-empty no-nut butter jar "

Oh, nothing says loving like mushy bread

I just LOVE some of the suggestions for this "burrito bowl":
bean paste, avocado,  guacamole,  olives, onions, crab meat, avocado, peas,  seaweed, smoked salmon, leftover fish, fried tofu, shredded carrot...

Yup, lots of friendships were made over sliced onions and leftover fish.

I could just picture my sweet Legoson's face
 -  refering to the shredded carrot of course....
would have to disguise it a wee bit better.

Next up we have
"leftovers on a stick"

aka "Skew-able treat combos"
imagine all the kids at school - brandishing pointy sticks they're only going to use them to eat...uh-huh...
but heck - food and toy - all in one...

Next up - the "single-vessel meals"

comprised of last night dinner of course
- you know, that meal that Legoson wouldn't eat last night and had to sit at the table until he ate it,
so he sat there all night...
well, guess what - you STILL have to eat it!

mmmm... more mushy stuff all rolled up,
so I guess your hands don't get messy.

I believe I see shredded carrots there again... need I say more?

Great - now we can separate it all into fancy dishes...
but where oh where would I hide the shredded carrots???

Wonder if I disguised those shredded carrots this way if ...

and of course we all have time to cut out sandwiches like this..
oh, and what's that hiding under there?

The very last suggestion was to let them pack their own lunch.
Better hide the chocolate first.

OK, I get that they are healthy lunches - in fact I'd love them for myself...
but for kids? Seriously? I wish....

someday... just not this day...

Just don't get me upset Legoson...

Counting the days....

Sunday April 6, 2014

Further progress on my recent 'job'

Day 2

It's hard to concentrate on stitching when my mind keeps wandering though....

those were the days....

Whoo -hooo! I'm published! I did a model stitch for X's & Oh's , and the chart was released. :)

This is the photo I took before I sent it back:

and my copy of the official chart!

my name!!!

So I knowwwww I am supposed to be stitching other things..
like a SAL that I instigated, but  I haven't even started...

but this project came along
a worthy distraction...
and I just love helping friends :)

(OK, so there's lots I can't resist when it comes to stitching...)

22 count, 1 thread, over 1
This was my progress last night

and what's this?... another distraction?

a small down payment
or bribe, I'm not sure...

reminds me of this Candy game I get distracted with,

speaking of chocolate..
here is my latest toy
and another distraction...

And here's some cookie batter... oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with chickpeas

the batter...

yes, chickpeas...
it's from one of those hidden ingredient
so your kid actually ingests some sort of veggie cookbook
(aka Deceptively Delicious.. and yes they are!)

batter + my new toy
= experiment in distraction

I thought the dough might spread out a bit...nope
oh well

Looks even yummier on the plate?

uh, no.. but it did taste good.

I did mention a Lego bird arrived a while ago...

a valid excuse for Legoson to buy Lego
- for his Legomom of course.

I don't think Kiwi quite knows what to make of it.
He was pondering if it was food or a new chew toy I'm sure...

Either that or me getting distracted.

It was NOT a hint....

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

So it was my birthday a while ago. Guess what  oh young, sweet Legoson gave his mom?

I'll give you ONE guess.

A Lego kit of course... a mini VW camper van...

I do not recommend ever wandering into a Lego store and mentioning that you think any of the kits they sell are neat. At least not within earshot of any Legoffspring. Lego nuts seem to latch onto that quite quickly.

It was torture for legoson that I held off building it for a few weeks. Dear, darling Legoson offered numerous times that he could build it for me. He even said I might have difficulties and could use his expertise.

I made it quite clear that this was MINE to build... WHEN I felt like it..... mean Legomom that I am, lol

Eventually I said I would build it, and he could help me - by passing me the pieces I needed for each step.
So here is my adventure into Legomania....

(yeah, I did let him build a few steps, lol)

a motor!

Licence plate.. love how it starts with 'H'

and then
things started to get cool...

tile floor... doors that open

mini plant

and of course a sink

the back seat even folds down

sink accessories

driver's seat

fold-down table

super cool t-shirt,
that you can see in the side window

I'll have to get one of these

and voila - the finished van

Both front doors open, and of course the side doors

and the top pops up for the bed space
- just like the real thing

the coolest thing
- the entire roof lifts off to reveal the inside

rear and storage doors

front VW logo

ok, so you DO know what this REALLY is

my own mini Stitch-mobile!

I still need to stitch some accessories for the inside.
And of course there's some groovy stickers I need to find....

ok, ok...I must admit it was a neat ...and super duper cool present.

But don't tell Legoson that too many times.

A Lego bird might just show up next...

but that's another story.
